WILL COUNTY FAIR TO OFFER FUN FOR EVERYONE
By Carrie Steinweg published July 27, 2023
One of the highlights of summer is a trip to a fair. The Will County Fair kicks off on August 23 for five days of excitement and fun for all ages. From kids’ entertainment to a beer garden, monster trucks to tractor pulls, goat shows to magic shows, there will be something for everyone.
Carnival rides are a big draw. The opening night is Dollar Day with $1 rides all night long. Thursday,August 24 is Ride-A-Thon Night where wristbands can be purchased for $30 for unlimited rides starting at 4 p.m.
The agricultural aspect of the fair is a big facet of the fair and something that local farmers work toward all year long. Judging takes place in a number of different areas. Animal shows include cattle, sheep, goats, swine, light horses and junior ponies, poultry and pigeons. It’s always fun to walk through the stalls and see the animals, some of whom have been raised by young children.
Other fine arts exhibits include textiles, photography, horticulture, floriculture, cakes, breads, vegetables, wood carving and more. You’ll be amazed at the talent of locals who have entered their creations in the competition.
Entertainment will take place throughout each day. For those captivated by the thrill of magic, there will be magic shows from a few different magicians each day along with additional shows featuring juggling and a circus-themed show. There will also be plenty of musical and family entertainment that will include the Frankfort Brass Band, Scribblemonster and others that is included with your fair admission. In the Beer Garden, you’ll find additional bands.
On Sunday there will be a community church service at the fair, hosted by Peotone Community Church.
There will be certain themes or events each day. August 24 is Senior Citizen and Veterans Day; August 25 is Monster Truck Day; August 26 will be Scramble Race & Derby Day and August 27 is Rodeo Day and Chili Cook Off Day.
Be sure to come to the fair hungry as you’ll find all kinds of walkable concoctions and fried versions or more things that you can imagine.
A trip to the fair is a fun experience and a last summer hoorah before the kids are back to the grind of the school year. If you’ve never been, it’s something that you should definitely add to that summer bucket list. For more information, visit
