Princess Cafe Offers Romantic Atmosphere and Fine Dining in Historic Building
By Carrie Steinweg published February 09, 2023
There are so many options to choose from when dining out in the Chicago Southland - everything from fast casual to buffets to ethnic spots to hot dog stands to trendy gastropubs. But when you’re looking for something a little more upscale or the perfect place for a romantic dinner date, there’s nothing like sinking into a seat at an old-school, dimly-lit fine-dining establishment with white tablecloths and candlelight and a menu of steak and seafood accompanied by fine wines and classic cocktails.
If something classic and comfortable is what you have in mind for a night out for Valentine’s Day or another special occasion, you’ll want to make your way to the Princess Cafe in Beecher. This restaurant has been feeding customers the finest USDA prime aged meat and fresh seafood for over 45 years now in a sophisticated atmosphere that enhances the dining experience.
The Princess Cafe also offers the charm of a storied history. The building dates back to 1863 and was once the Old Stage Tavern in an era when it was a stagecoach stop for travelers making their way from Kankakee to Chicago.
The menu includes soups and sauces that are made from scratch. Meats are cut on site for freshness and quality. Nothing is processed or frozen. Diners enjoy a complimentary meatball appetizer and other starters include Baked Onion Soup, Oysters Florentine, Escargots, Shrimp de Jonghe, Saganacki and more.
You’ll be wowed by the seafood menu - with about a dozen mainstays ranging from crab legs to grilled halibut to frog legs. Prime Rib is available on Saturdays and in addition to their regular steak offerings, there are daily specials. Veal Chops, Lamb Chops and Beef Stroganoff make their way into the specials rotation in addition to a number of steaks and seafood dishes.
Make sure you save room for a slice of cheese cake, tiramisu, Italian lemon cream cake or homemade rice pudding. To learn more about the menu and location, visit theprincesscafe.com.
